Picture: Chacarero Sandwich (Pastry Express Cuban Bread, Beef, tomato & green beans)Chacarero in Chile means “farmer”. The name of this Sandwich has to do with its ingredients, because it contains the freshest produce from the “chacra” (farm) which was the name that was used a long time ago to designate such a place in the South of the country  and “Chacareros” were the people who worked there .

Ingredients for a great and famous Chacarero Sandwich

Steak

250gr

Tomato (fresh)

75gr

Green Beans (fresh)

75gr

Oil to fry

Mayonnaise (optional)

Salt

Black Pepper

Cuban Bread

Preparation

  • Take off excess grease and thinly cut the steak. Add salt and black pepper to taste.

  • In a medium size pan, using a few oil to fry, cook the meat on both sides. Do not let it dry. You want it cooked but juicy.

  • Cut your Cuban Bread the size you want your sandwiches to be and open them. Then, warm your bread in the oven and if you want to, you may add the mayonnaise (original recipe doesn’t include any!).

  • Place the beefstakes on the base of the bread, then the sliced fresh tomatoes, the green beans and the aji.

  • Place the bread cover.

  • Serve your Chacarero Sandwich with a good cup of coffee, cold soda or beer!

Tips & Tricks

  • Use fresh produce. The fresher the better.

  • Choose authentic Cuban Bread. It will hold a great deal of moisture; all the savory delicious juice of your meat, mixed with natural vegetable moisture. If it is authentic, it will hold without tearing apart!

  • Do not overcook either the beans or the meat. In the first case, you need the crunchy touch. Second, you want to preserve the juices.
